Dealing with adverse weather

December 6, 2023

When December arrives, we tend to create vivid images of snowy white Christmas events. Skiing Holidays. Snow has the curious effect of fun images. Children playing in the snow and making snow men, etc.

On site, work carries on as normal. With the slight difference that snow means cold weather and cold weather slows all processes down. The workers are not able to stand long working hours in the cold; components freeze; and main Installation is suddenly faced with unavoidable delays.

Oosinselka in the Summer

When this picture changes into the picture below, work, though still moving on, goes slower. As cold starts to press, days start to become shorter and shorter, the entire scenario simply changes. Resources need to be re-evaluated.

Oosinselka in the Winter

Our site, Oosinselka, near to Pori, Finland, is currently passing through a cold weather wave. Preventing main Installation to proceed in our habitual speed.

With only a few turbines to go and Christmas around the corner, our challenges now point towards:

  • keeping components warm and preventing Ice formation;
  • maintaining workers morality up despite the adversities of the weather;
  • planning component ice clearance in such way that all low wind opportunities are utilized.

Returning the beautiful, and peaceful, almost holiday-like, feeling the snow brings up in most people. The Oosinselka team faces snow with a mild smile on their face and the strength to keep on going despite the cold.

Happy Christmas and a Happy New Year to everyone!
