Harnessing the Wind, powering a brighter future

Recently arrived to Portugal in 2004, Afonso came across with an opportunity with Vestas on one of Europe’s largest wind energy projects. Working on 3MW turbines, he discovered a passion for problem-solving and innovation.

His skills led him to Vestas’ first travel technician team, supporting wind projects across Greece, Spain, Japan, and Scandinavia. Through diverse experiences, he shaped his leadership vision.

But it was only in 2016, that Afonso took a bold step. Founding AFF WINDSERVICES. The company grew from installation supervision to site management, securing direct contracts by 2021.

Prioritizing quality over quantity, AFF WINDSERVICES expanded to eight site managers by 2025.

Today, AFF WINDSERVICES offers a range of specialized services that extend from site management, expert consultation, and supervision to scheduled and unscheduled maintenance. Rooted in Afonso’s journey, AFF Windservices stands for freedom, responsibility, and long-term impact, both in wind turbines and people.

The start of a Dream

Afonso ,a young mechanical engineer with a degree from the Netherlands, he carried a deep desire to return to Portugal and build a career where his roots were. But in the beginning, that dream was grounded in something much simpler: working as a mechanic in a local workshop.

The Turning Point

Everything changed. An advertisement from Vestas caught his eye. There was an opportunity for young technicians who spoke English to work on Portugal’s largest wind energy project, and one of Europe’s most ambitious at the time. It was a challenge he couldn’t resist! The Serra de Aire e Candeeiros site was his first job in the wind industry, and it was just as installation was being completed that he first set eyes on the white giants.

Skills Growth

Six months later, his dedication and natural problem-solving abilities led him to an even bigger challenge: becoming part of Vestas’ first travel technicians team, supporting wind projects across the Mediterranean. His first assignment outside of Portugal took him to Greece, marking the beginning of a career shaped by travel, other cultures, and connection.

AFF WINDSERVICES was born. Not just as a company, but as a commitment to quality, integrity, and leadership. From installation supervision to site management.

New Service Introduced

In 2018, the company also began to provide installation support, with trained teams of installation technicians.

First Contract

In 2021 we closed our first direct contract, without intermediaries, and began to raise the company's brand and name and the reputation of its services. This allowed us to close the year with 3 managers.
